Interviews from Misty, Steff, Katie112
Are you male or female?
Misty: Female
Steff: Female
Katie112: Female

How old were you when you attended this facility?
Misty: I was 22 when I went to hope haven(the first time) and the Madonna house, and I was 23 when I went into hope haven the second time and Atwater.
Steff: 22
Katie112: 21

Describe your addiction:
Misty: I'm a heroin addict. I've also been addicted to coccaine, marijuana and alcohol.
Steff: OPIATE addiction (heroin)
Katie112: Opiate addiction primarily iv heroin use not limited to iv cocaine use, cracked, and other pills

Why did you choose to go to rehab?
Misty: The first time i went to hope haven I was mandated to go. Then when j went to Madonna house I went bc I had no other place to go. The second time I went to hope haven was because I got kicked out of the Madonna house and I wanted to finish the program the right way, and I continued on into the halfway house(Atwater)
Steff: To get help.
Katie112: Out of other options the last time I really wanted to get clean and have a lifeand had gotten a dwai

Why did you choose this facility?
Misty: Hope haven was because it was the one with the least amount of wait time, both times. The Madonna house, because it portrayed itself as something great, when it wasn't. And atwater because it was the next step after rehab.
Steff: Closest one
Katie112: It was close to home and not super strict like other places and they had very good food.

How long were you in this rehab facility? Inpatient or outpatient?
Misty: Hope haven I was in for 28 days, inpatient. Madonna house I was in for a 3 or 4 months, was inpatient and Atwater was a halfway house, I was in there for 2 months before supportive living for 1 month, also inpatient.
Steff: 28 days
Katie112: In patient 30 days

What is this facility's approach to the treatment process?
Misty: Hope haven was a group setting. I didn't feel they cared enough about the clients as their own individual people. Madonna house was awful. They told you to live life on life's terms, but expected you to hold your one year olds hand while vacuuming three long hallways, you weren't able to leave your child with another person for whatever reason, and it's about 15 women living with their children, so like a bad girls club on steroids. They did have group and individual sessions. Atwater was the best place I went to. Yeah they were on top of you, but you need that, this is a halfway house. They did groups and individual sessions.
Steff: a lot of 12-step meetings, groups to teach you how not to use
Katie112: Both one on one and group as well as daily outside aa/Na meeting. Freedom with enough boundaries to stay safe. They had a program where they play music and talk while everyone listens. Very helpful. I went back once after my first time ultimately because of me not the quality of care received I love hope haven to this day and often recommend it to others who need help

What do you think this rehab facility does well?
Misty: Hope haven, they try to keep a nice regime going, it just lacks. The Madonna house, I did like that we were made to have a sponsor and do our steps. Atwater, I like the constant need to know where we are, what we're doing and community service helps a lot too!
Steff: Making sure people go to the meetings
Katie112: Very caring staff and countless were great. Going to outside meetings was huge

What could this facility do better?
Misty: Hope haven is just known for having drugs coming in an out of the place, so maybe fix that? The Madonna house, they need to fix their expectations of mothers and not punish them if they didn't get the vacuuming done bc it's impossible to do with a 1 year old. And Atwater, just keep a better eye on whose doing what, because there were drugs there too, maybe more drug screenings.
Steff: Keep Drugs out
Katie112: Keep people longer

Overall do you feel your treatment here was successful or not?
Misty: No to all three of them, because I went out and used right way when I got out of them all, except when I transferred from hope haven to the Madonna house. But that's because I didn't have a chance.
Steff: I do because I have stayed off of drugs.
Katie112: Yes I do. Although I relapsed once after my final stay there i learned what I needed to learn to stay clean and once I did finally get sober again I used what I learned there to keep my sobriety and am still drug free today. 2 and a half years.

Did you relapse after treatment?
Misty: I relapsed and was clean on and off for 3 years. Currently in going on 6 months completely clean. I suggest finding a program that works for you, it works if you work it! Plus the vivitrol shot I've been doing for 3 months is a tremendous help!
Steff: Yes once. I am clean now. Advice to somebody who suffers from a relapse, go to a meeting.
Katie112: I did relapse after but l have 2 and 1/2 years clean now. My father passed away and I didn't want to be sober anymore. You can always come back from a relapse but u have to really want it and most of the time need to make a whole new life. People places things. My daughter saved my life I got clean when u found out I was pregnant with her.

Would you recommend this facility to a friend or a family member?
Misty: To all of them no, hope haven and Atwater are drug infested, and it's like testing yourself everyday because drugs are right in front of you! Madonna house they have absolutely unrealistic expectations and there were two types of people, people that didn't get kicked out and graduated and relapsed and people that got kicked out.
Steff: Not unless they were strong enough to stay away from drugs that may or may not be brought into the facility
Katie112: Absolutely. They care there. They have a very nice doctor and a great aftercare program.

What general advice would you give to somebody dealing with addiction?
Misty: Keep coming back to meetings. Find a great sober support network, Facebook has any type of addiction recovery groups! Go to outpatient, find a wonderful inpatient!! You are worth more than you can ever possibly know!!
Steff: Your family is trying to help you, listen to them, they only want whats best for you.
Katie112: Don't listen to your drug induced thoughts. Find your self worth and find something to live for. .. Its hard but not impossible. Go to meetings use a sponsor

Have you been to any other rehab facilities?
Misty: N/a
Steff: Just Narcotics Anonymous meetings
Katie112: Norris in Rochester new York once and hope haven in Batavia NY twice
