Joe: Reputation for impaired professionals Chris P: Reputation Tell us about the experience - was it positive or negative? Joe: Retrospectively I'm not impressed. I told myself it was all good at the time. So overall, a negative impression Chris P: Overall it was positive. Talbott saved my life. I was suffering from a terrible addiction and they showed me another way to live. I cannot say enough about them. Do you feel the program was successful? Joe: Inasmuch as I couldn't work until I completed it, then yes. But honestly just being incarcerated in a rehab and thinking about what I'd done to my family and life was enough to stop. I quit on my own, I played the game to get out and now I'm happy and sober 2 years without all the crap they forced on me then. I don't do 12 step stuff, I am regularly tested and my life is good. I am working, which was my goal anyway. I don't need drugs and I did see the consequences of long term abuse while there, so that was a positive. Chris P: Absolutely What advice would you give somebody considering going to this facility? Joe: Be ready for the typical 12 step indoctrination. It's disappointing that these esteemed facilities rely on such an antiquated dogma for treatment model. Honestly, I'd seek a cognitive therapy type of psychiatrist who doesn't espouse 12 step dogma if I had to do it over again. Save you big bucks in the long run. Chris P: If you can afford it, it is a great place to find recovery. |
