Interviews from Molly, Martha, joan, Ron, BillWfrie
Why did you choose this facility?
Molly: Hospital set it up
Martha: Hospital made the arrangements.
joan: found it online plus close to home
Ron: my insurance accepted me here low copay
BillWfriend: Only three facilities authorized by IPN. This one was the closest geographically.

Tell us about the experience - was it positive or negative?
Molly: Negative
Martha: For me the experience was extremely negative. They had me taking medications that I did not think were necessary. I was trying to get off medications and they just kept giving me different ones. I don't feel like they actually listened to what I had to say...but as long as you said what they wanted to hear you were alright. There was way too much drama there and most definitely there were those that were the "favorites". The thing that really shows how much they "care" is that the very second your insurance won't cover any more time they make you leave. When I say leave, I mean right then and there. Even though they tell you that you will need more than a month in rehab, once the insurance is up you are out!!! The so called therapists are a joke...anyone can print out a diploma.
joan: negative counselours were always looking for the worst in you ,never believing anything psych put me on pills I dont think i needed could have done without that when i c/o neck pains and asked about side effects of the drug was told to "work through it" when my money ran out they told me i should stay another month I said I couldnt afford it ,they said i should mortgage my house or raid my 401K to pay for it THAT would really have made me more depressed . I gave them the last of the money I had in my acct and that bought me a few more days, THEN it was "SEE YA" even though i told themmy insurance would pay for out pt treatment with a specialist psych , they said that wouldnt be good enough that I needed "more intensive treatment"
Ron: negative my experience here was traumatizing this is a unprofessional rehab they have the maintenance man handing out meds only 2 men run the whole rehab center they keep you drugged up in there there are people that continue to use drugs in the pods several people were overdosing on narcotics the staff curse and are rude there are no locks on the doors and no staff in the pods when i left they continued to bill my insurance because turning point did not discharge me properly when i asked for my medical record file they refused to give it too me i regret even seeking this place for help i came out worse the i came in
BillWfriend: Although informative at times, overall it was negative. It is a money making organization. The therapist asserts how concerned "the treatment team" is, when insurance stops paying it is instant graduation. There is also a system whereby random drug testing is performed. There are often false positive test results with no allowance for proving that the system is faulty. Patients are automatically "extended" in therapy, or "behavior contracts" are executed with insistence that the patient work through his / her denial, etc. Bottom line......they make money no matter what. If you are a nurse, you will be treated differently because IPN can be held as external motivation. If you are self pay / insured without a court system, etc motivation, the staff takes a gentler approach. After all, the patient may choose to leave resulting in loss of funds for the organization.

Do you feel the program was successful?
Molly: NO HAD ME TAKING MORE PILLS[MEDS] THEN I WAS ON BEFORE ENTERING REHAB. IN FOR PILLS AND HUFFING AND TOLD I WAS AN OUT OF CONTROL ALCOHOLIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martha: I have been clean now for 2 1/2 years but I owe my successful recovery to the support of my family NOT to Turning Point of Tampa. For me, the program was definitely NOT a success. It was ridiculously expensive and I did not get my monies worth...not even close.
joan: these places just want to get you in there and suck all your money from you . you end up on your own having to solve your problems ultimately by yourself>>> would rather have had some of that money back to help live on while Iattended NA meetings on the outside>>>you cant live in a cocoon forever< REALITY awaits>>>
Ron: hell no
BillWfriend: I paid a lot of money for them to tell me to go to AA. AA is helping me more than anything else. Overall, no, I do not believe it was successful.

What advice would you give somebody considering going to this facility?
Molly: FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!
Martha: Don't go here.
joan: Save your money for some intensive out pt therapy and learn how to live your life in the real world,NOT some sheltered one
Ron: dont go here its a death trap waiting to happen
BillWfriend: Go to AA. Get a sponsor, and work the program. Keep your money.
